Our verdict
The answer when the question is a circuit rather than a plug. If your bill is high and the plug-in meter hasn't found the culprit, the cause is usually hardwired — a water heater, a heat pump's strip heat, a well pump short-cycling — and this is the tool that sees those. Budget for an electrician to install it unless you already work in panels.
