WattSimple

kW to Amps Calculator

Convert kilowatts to amps — or amps to kW — for DC, single-phase, and three-phase circuits. Set the voltage and power factor, and WattSimple also shows the NEC breaker and copper wire size for the resulting current.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply kilowatts by 1,000 to get watts, then divide by the voltage (and power factor for AC). Single-phase: amps = kW × 1,000 ÷ (volts × PF). Three-phase: amps = kW × 1,000 ÷ (1.732 × volts × PF). Example: 9.6 kW at 240V single-phase = 40 amps.
