Best Level 2 EV Chargers for Home

A Level 2 charger is a 240-volt appliance, and the electrical decisions — breaker size, hardwired versus plug-in, whether your panel has the capacity at all — matter more than the brand on the box. Size the circuit first with the breaker sizing calculator; every charger here is adjustable downward, so the circuit, not the charger, sets your real charging speed.

The connector landscape is mid-transition: new US EVs are converging on NACS while millions of J1772 cars stay on the road. Most brands now sell both versions of the same charger, and one sells a unit with both built in. Buy for the car you'll have in five years, not just the one in the driveway.

If your load calculation comes back tight, two chargers here publish real CT-based load management that throttles charging to whatever capacity your service has spare — routinely the difference between a straightforward install and a four-figure panel upgrade.

How we picked

  • UL or equivalent NRTL listing — non-listed imports are not worth the discount
  • Output and adjustability that match a real circuit, not marketing peak numbers
  • Enclosure rating fit for where it actually mounts
  • Published load-management story for panels without spare capacity

We do not accept payment for placement and we do not publish star ratings we did not measure. Specifications come from each manufacturer's published spec sheet.
