What's good
- No hub to wire — the gateway plugs into a wall outlet and the sensors just need to be within radio range
- Loud enough to hear from upstairs, and adjustable so a bedroom sensor doesn't scream at 3 a.m.
- Five-year stated battery life and an IP67 shell, so a sensor that sits in a drip pan survives getting wet

What's not
- Govee's FAQ is explicit: the sensors require the gateway for app alerts — a bare sensor pack only beeps
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; a router that merges bands can make pairing fiddly
- Detects and alarms — it cannot close a valve; add a shutoff such as the Moen Flo for that

Our verdict
The kit to start with. Three sensors cover the three places a tank water heater, a washer and a kitchen sink leak, the alarm is loud, and the app alert reaches you at work. Treat it as an early-warning system: it tells you water is on the floor, it does not stop it.
